When I become discouraged or feeling that my art is getting nowhere, I sometimes look back at where I was 5 years ago. I would say I look back 5, 10, 15 years ago but my painting doesn’t go back that far. Before 2004, I mostly dabbled with crafts such a scrap-booking, crochet, and a variety of other things.
Around 2003, I found painting, but was still to afraid to take it seriously. I fell into the same trap a lot of adult aspiring painters fall into, telling myself think like:
“I am too old to start this now. If I had any talent, I would already be able to paint. I don’t think something like this can be learned. You have to be born with it.”
Somewhere around 2004, with a lot of encouragement from some wonderful ladies in the Decorative Artists of Jacksonville, I began a few timid steps toward learning to paint. Without my association with that club, I don’t think I would have continued painting.
Below is a photo gallery of my 2004 paintings, the ones I took and kept a photo of. If you are really curious about them, you can click through to the Flickr site, you can read my comments about each painting.
